Summer Self-care series: How to enjoy your vacation without the guilt!

You’re lucky enough to be on vacation this summer, at an all-inclusive no less and have free reign to eat & drink. Anything. You. Want.

You’ve worked hard all year and you deserve it. So you go hard eating everything in sight and drinking like you were in your 20s again!

When you get back from vacation – your body feels it. You say, as so many of us who are far from their 20s say: I’m getting older.

So how can we balance the need to enjoy & let loose with wanting to take care of ourselves, without straying too much from what we know is good for us?

It’s going to be different for everyone but here are 3 good places to start on your next vacay:

1. The Buffet: Go for quality not quantity.

I’ve heard many (& perhaps even said the words myself) people say: “I wanna get my money’s worth” when it comes to food at all-inclusive resort (or any buffet for that matter).

Eat a little of the foods you really enjoy. Go back for seconds only if you are hungry.

Remember: you will be here for 4 to 7 days – you don’t have to eat everything on the first day!

2. Drink alcohol responsibly.

For every alcoholic beverage have at least one glass of pure, filtered water. This is especially important if you’ll be out in the sun a lot because you’re less likely to feel the dehydration until it’s too late.

3. Stay active!

Go for a walk on the beach. Take that free yoga or fitness class the resort offers. Go for a swim in the pool or that beautiful ocean water. Dance the night away at the resort club.

If you’re planning to eat & drink more than you usually would, you need to keep moving if you want to avoid gaining the 5 lbs you worked so hard to lose before vacation.

With these 3 tips I hope you can enjoy your Self on any vacation without the guilt or long-lasting negative impact on your health.

That wraps up our 4 week Summer Self-care series. I hope these help you make the most of the second half of your summer!
