Optimal Fertility
Fertility is about so much more than just getting pregnant. I tell all of my fertility patients that our goal is to get them as healthy as possible so that they have the best possible chance at getting pregnant, staying pregnant and delivering a healthy, full-term baby. That’s optimal fertility.
Ideally, Dr. Odette recommends working together to optimize your fertility for at least 3 months before trying to become pregnant. When the sperm fertilizes the egg it’s called conception, so the time before this is known as preconception. This 3 month preconception period is important because it takes approximately that long for the process of sperm and egg maturation.
During the preconception period, Dr. Odette can recommend nutrition, supplements, herbs, acupuncture & lifestyle changes to help:
- Support healthy growth of the sperm and egg
- Protect the sperm & egg from damage
- Balance reproductive hormones
- Reduce stress levels
- Support reproductive organ function and health
- Improve overall health & well-being
All of these are important in optimizing your fertility. Here’s some more specific information on optimizing fertility for egg quality and sperm quality.
